Santorini (Thira) Greece | Part 1

One year later and I'm finally sharing more pictures from our trip to Greece in September 2018! We spent 3 days in Santorini and 4 days in Milos and felt like that was the perfect amount of time to do what we wanted on each island (we took a ferry between the two)! This post contains day 1 and morning 2. We got up at sunrise each day to catch the city without crowds and it was so worth it :) Also, Greece is literally the hottest place I have ever been in my life. I had heard it, but my mind just couldn't compute that the weather would say 85 but I literally was DRIPPING in sweat from the moment I stepped outside. Also, so.many.stairs. Santorini especially is not for the faint of heart and can be quite strenuous to get around! Worth every ounce of sweat though to see this incredible place.

This was where we stayed! A one bedroom AirBnB, which we always have the best experience with. Below is the view from our balcony.

Greek coffee is the best thing I've ever had in my LIFE.

We walked down to the dock area and had lunch then went for a swim in Ammoudi Bay.

Best food ever. Sunset Ammoudi Restaurant.

All the gyros and so cheap.

Just us an a few of our closest friends watching the most famous sunset in the world, haha.

Day 2 we got up at sunrise to get pictures at a few of our favorite locations!

The famous 3 blue domes were literally a 5 minute walk from our place- we could see them from our balcony!

Our First Vegetable Garden

Levi and I have a garden! This is huge because we have a *very* long history of not being able to keep things alive! We got these hand-me-down raised garden beds and my sister in law is a horticulturist so she helped us set it all up right!

We started late in the season so we didn't grow them from seeds. It's basically a trial run and we'll see how it goes! So far we've gotten bell peppers, jalapeños, cherry tomatoes, basil and one cucumber :) We've had our fair share of nitrogen deficiencies and striped cucumber bugs but mainly good results! Side note, if anyone has tips about getting rid of those bugs I'm all ears!

This fall we hope to grow things like potatoes, lettuce, carrots, brussels sprouts! I have been intimidated about gardening for years but now that I have done it there are so many cool benefits to it! For one, it's super fun to feel like YOU helped make something. It's also nice to not have to buy these things at the store, especially basil! Lastly, it has given us a guaranteed daily activity together that we do outside. We usually go out around 8pm to do the watering and it's so peaceful and nice out by then. It's important to me to have activities together during the week that aren't just watching our favorite shows!

Our cucumber plant has kind of taken over  😬

We also planted a packet of sunflower seeds and wildflower seeds! Only one flower took off  😂
but it's been going strong and we can't wait for it to bloom!!!

Hello blog, my old friend.

Hello blog, my old friend.

I've spent some time reading back over you (especially years 2013-14). You were so good to me. You helped me so much. You brought out a side of me that is so beautiful, so articulate, so poignant. I miss that side. It hasn't been around in a long time. I haven't been able to pin point the moment in which it was lost, but lost it is.

Or maybe it's not? This rhythm flows, it feels good, but where did it go for so long? Let me think.

I guess it went to graduate school. I guess it went into papers, discussions, insecurities, fears, career. I guess it went to "growing up." I'm 30 now, dear blog. Much has happened and little of it has been aided by emotion. Why is that? According to this blog history, I was really good at emotions. I could feel with the best of them. It was so much of who I was- how did it escape me? When did I put that aside? I'd like it back please. Yes, it hurt, that is true. But it also made things real and hard and vital. Life was urgent. And sure, it's nice not to be urgent all of the time but I have the feeling maybe I could use a little more of it now.

Did you know it's very easy to get comfortable in your 30s? (as someone 2 months into their 30s I can say this with full confidence). You go to work, you meal prep, you watch The Bachelorette, you have fun, and it's all great but....comfortable. And maybe it's my inner angsty teen coming up but hey, we had fun together didn't we? Life was interesting. Life still is interesting. But. But.

So here we are, talking again. It feels a little rusty, it feels a little vulnerable, it feels a little silly (I mean it IS 2019, do people even blog anymore if they aren't a hashtag influencer?). But you know what? Maybe I need a little more rusty, vulnerable, silly things in my life. Yes, yes I think that's it.
